Student visas are for students wishing to pursue their studies in Australia.  This visa allows students to study and learn English, take short courses that range from 3 months to a year, or pursue bachelor’s degrees, master’s degrees, or Ph.D. degrees.

As  of  1 July 2016, there are now only two Student visa subclasses – Student Visa subclasses 500 and 590. (Migration Legislation Amendment (2016 Measures No. 1) Regulation 2016

The Class TU Student (Temporary) Subclass 500 visa is intended for:
•    overseas students (including school students) who wish to undertake a full-time registered course of study in Australia. Under the Education Services for Overseas Students Act 2000 (Cth) (ESOS Act), only education providers registered on CRICOS are allowed to offer education and training to overseas students;
•    secondary exchange, Foreign Affairs and Defence students; and
•    post graduate students wishing to remain in Australia during making of their thesis.
The Class TU Student (Temporary) Subclass 590 Student Guardian visa is for a parent, custodian or relative to live in Australia in order to provide appropriate care and welfare arrangements for student visa holders under the age of 18 during their study, or student visa holders over 18 in exceptional circumstances.

Validity

This Australian visa allows students to stay in the country for the duration of their chosen course and allows holder to get in and go out of Australia multiple times. Students can also bring dependent family members to Australia who are required to stay the same length of time as the students. Once the student has left, the dependents cannot stay in.

Requirements

•    Acceptance letter from the school
•    Proof that you have money to support you while in Australia
•    Overseas health insurance
•    Test scores that show proficiency in the English language (students from countries like the US, UK, and New Zealand need not show these.)
•    Academic records and history
